PRAIRIE CREEK REDWOOD STATE PARK

This posted out of order so Day 2 of Jarod and Danna visit is this first post with the first day being second. On this day we went north on the 101 to Fern Canyon and Prairie Creek
.
In the October 2009 issue of National Geographic, the Redwoods are the cover story and actually talk about Rockefeller Forest and Prarie Creek which is where the 3 of us spent our time that weekend. I highly recommend you read the article and check out their pictures that accompany the article. It mentions how the Redwoods can survive for such a long period of time, an HSU professor and talks about our logging issues in the local community. The Redwoods are a very special thing and I feel lucky to have them in my backyard.

there are 3 trees growing off of this stump. If you read the National Geographic article I mentioned you would know about this phenomena

Jarod and Danna spotted these guys

on the drive home we came across a herd of maybe 70 elk

click to enlarge this one and check out the bucks antlers, he has grass caught in them!
mini herds like this kept coming out of the brush for a good 15 minutes, it was awesome
